A commitment to the UK creative community
Mike Hopkins, head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, emphasized the importance of this acquisition in fostering relationships with the UK creative community. “With Bray as our creative home in the UK, we are committed to deepening our relationships with the UK creative community, which is rich with world-class storytellers and creative talent of all kinds,” he said.
Frank Burke, chairman of Bray Film Studios Ltd, echoed this sentiment, expressing pride in the studio’s storied heritage and excitement for its future under Amazon’s stewardship. “We are now genuinely excited to be handing the studios over to Amazon, who we believe share our commitment to quality and excellence,” he said.
A rich filmmaking heritage
Bray Studios has a long and illustrious history dating back to 1951 when it became the permanent home of Hammer Films. The studio was the birthplace of numerous iconic films, including the 1957 cult classic “Dracula,” starring Christopher Lee. In the 1970s, it was the site where models and miniatures for Ridley Scott’s “Alien” were created and shot. The 1980s and 1990s saw Bray Studios used as a music space, hosting rehearsals for Led Zeppelin and the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert for AIDS Awareness.
After a period of inactivity, filmmaking resumed at Bray in 2017 with the hit BBC series “Bodyguard,” followed by the Oscar-winning Elton John biopic “Rocketman.” The second season of “The Rings of Power” began shooting at Bray in October 2022.
