Dori Media Group expands into India with new sales office
A new chapter in global entertainment
Dori Media Group (DMG), a multinational studio known for its international hits like In Treatment, Losing Alice, Lalola, The New Black, and Power Couple, is making a significant move by opening its first sales office in India. This expansion marks a strategic step into one of the world’s most lucrative markets.
Leadership with a vision
Devdatta Potnis: A seasoned media executive
To spearhead this new venture, DMG has appointed Devdatta Potnis, a media executive with nearly two decades of experience in the Indian media content industry. Potnis brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise, having previously served as CEO of Animeta, a Gen AI tech startup based in India. His impressive resume also includes a pivotal role as chief growth officer at Cosmos-Maya, an animation studio with operations in India and Singapore, where he led the sales of over 25 TV series.
Diverse industry experience
Potnis’s career spans various sectors of the media industry, including production, finance, marketing, and development. Before his tenure at Cosmos-Maya, he was the chief manager of marketing & communications at Reliance MediaWorks Ltd. His extensive background also includes roles such as associate vice president of marketing at Balaji Motion Pictures Ltd. and head of sales & marketing for Maya Digital Studios.
A strategic move
Expanding global sales reach
Nadav Palti, CEO & President of Dori Media Group, expressed his excitement about Potnis joining the team. “We’re thrilled to have someone with Devdatta’s tremendous industry experience joining our team at Dori Media and helping us further expand our global sales reach,” he said. Palti highlighted the dynamic growth in the Indian market, which made opening an office in Mumbai a logical step.
Potnis’s perspective
Potnis shared his enthusiasm for joining DMG, stating, “Dori Media has a world-class catalog of programming and produces and distributes many of the top hits in our industry. These series often resonate with audiences globally, including here in India. I am really excited to be joining the team to help the company further grow its presence in India.”
Upcoming projects
High-octane dramas
DMG’s upcoming sales lineup includes two dramatic series that promise to captivate audiences:
- Amia: Filmed in Uruguay and Argentina, this series is inspired by the terror attacks of 1992 on the Israeli embassy and 1994 against the Argentinian Jewish community.
- Indal: This series follows the kidnapping of a police officer by a group of Ethiopian Israeli youth, triggering a national protest.
Reviving a classic
Dori Media recently announced the sale of new Spanish-language episodes of Lalola, which premiered in February on the Spanish-language platform ViX. The series, a contemporary remake of the popular romantic comedy that originally aired from 2008 to 2009, tells the story of Lalo, a womanizer who is turned into a woman, Lola, and seeks to reverse the spell. The format rights for Lalola are also available for global markets beyond Latin America and the U.S.
Personal reflections for enthusiasts
Cinema and TV series
For cinema and TV series enthusiasts, DMG’s expansion into India is a thrilling development. The studio’s diverse catalog offers a rich tapestry of storytelling that spans various genres and cultures. The upcoming series Amia and Indal promise to deliver intense, emotionally charged narratives that reflect real-world issues and historical events. These series are not just entertainment; they are windows into different worlds and experiences.
Music
While DMG is primarily known for its cinematic and television productions, the influence of music in their series cannot be understated. The soundtracks often enhance the emotional depth of the narratives, creating a more immersive experience for the audience. For those who appreciate the intersection of music and visual storytelling, exploring the soundtracks of DMG’s series on platforms like Spotify can offer an additional layer of enjoyment.
