A fresh take on ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’: A live-action adventure
A new era for a classic tale
The live-action remake of “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” has finally unveiled its much-anticipated trailer, sparking excitement among fans of the timeless fairy tale. This reimagining promises to breathe new life into the beloved story, with a modern twist that resonates with today’s audience.
Meet the new Snow White and Evil Queen
At the recent D23 Expo, the stars of the film, Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, shared their experiences and insights about stepping into these iconic roles. Zegler, who plays Snow White, expressed her joy and honor in portraying the classic Disney princess. “It’s been the honor of a lifetime,” she said. “I think any young person, any little girl, if you get to put on a Disney princess dress and be her for a day, let alone six months… it’s just been the most amazing experience, and I can’t wait to share it with you all.”
Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, takes on the challenge of playing the Evil Queen. “It was a lot of fun to get to do something that is completely different than anything I’ve ever done before,” she remarked. ”She’s delicious, she’s evil, she’s magical. We got to sing all these different songs. It was incredible.”
A first look at the new Snow White
Disney has already given fans a sneak peek with a first-look image featuring Zegler as Snow White, complete with her signature bob haircut, surrounded by the seven dwarfs. This image alone has generated significant buzz and anticipation for the film.
Directed by Marc Webb
Under the direction of Marc Webb, known for “The Amazing Spider-Man,” this live-action adaptation aims to offer a fresh perspective on the original 1937 animated film. The classic story follows young Snow White, who escapes the castle after her stepmother, the Evil Queen, orders the Huntsman to kill her out of jealousy. Instead, Snow White finds refuge in a cottage with seven dwarfs. The Evil Queen, upon discovering Snow White’s survival, gives her a poisoned apple, leading to the iconic scene where Snow White is awakened by a prince’s true love’s kiss.
New characters and songs
In this remake, Ansu Kabia stars as the Huntsman, and Andrew Burnap introduces a new character named Jonathan. While the film will feature beloved songs from the original, it also includes new compositions by the acclaimed songwriting duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul.
A modern twist on a classic story
During the D23 Expo, Zegler and Gadot discussed the modern elements of this adaptation. Zegler emphasized that her Snow White will not be waiting for a prince to save her. “She’s not gonna be dreaming about true love. She’s dreaming about becoming the leader she knows she can be and the leader that her late father told her that she could be if she was fearless, fair, brave, and true,” Zegler explained. “It’s just a really incredible story for young people everywhere to see themselves in.”
Gadot echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive experience of working with an amazing crew. “We got to work with such an amazing crew, and it was just the best it could ever be,” she said. ”I feel so lucky that I got to play something that is so far from what I know and what I’m used to, and I super, super enjoyed every second of it.”
Release date and trailer
Originally slated for release on March 22, 2024, the film’s debut has been postponed to March 21, 2025, due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Despite the delay, the excitement continues to build as fans eagerly await this new interpretation of a classic tale.
