Firelight Films and Hulu announce Kindling Fund recipients
In other exciting news, Firelight Films and Hulu have announced the recipients of the second annual Hulu/Firelight Kindling Fund. This initiative awards filmmakers $25,000 to develop original nonfiction documentaries, feature films, or limited series, with a first look deal with Firelight and Hulu.
This year’s recipients are Byron Hurt for his films The Wildcat Way and Murder of a Drum Major, and Lyric R. Cabral for their untitled project. These filmmakers have been recognized for their unique talents and perspectives, bringing urgent stories from within their communities to the forefront.
Stanley Nelson, a prominent figure in the documentary film world, expressed his pride in the selection: “Firelight Films is proud to select Byron Hurt and Lyric R. Cabral for our second Hulu/Firelight Kindling Fund cohort. These are two filmmakers I’ve long admired and whose work has been previously supported by our sister organization, Firelight Media. With these projects, each filmmaker brings their unique talents and perspectives to urgent stories from within their communities, seeking narrative justice for the protagonists.”
