Bosch: Legacy to conclude with season 3, but the Bosch universe lives on
A bittersweet farewell to a beloved series
The journey of “Bosch: Legacy” is set to conclude with its third season, marking the end of an era for Amazon Freevee and Prime Video. The announcement, made by Michael Connelly, the author behind the Harry Bosch novels, has left fans with mixed emotions. The final season is slated for a March 2025 release, promising a grand sendoff for the series that has captivated audiences for nearly a decade.
Michael Connelly’s heartfelt message
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Connelly expressed his gratitude and pride in the series. “It’s been an amazing run with this character so far,” he wrote. “There’s that over-used phrase ‘It takes a village,’ so I’ll just say, it takes at least a whole town to make a show like this. We’ve had the best people up and down the call sheet. Actors, writers, directors, producers, and all the crew tried to make something special, and they certainly did. I’m very proud of what we did.”
Connelly also praised Titus Welliver, who has embodied the character of Harry Bosch since the original series debuted in 2014. “He became the full embodiment of Harry Bosch and that was the magic that fueled 10 seasons. As the guy who writes the books, I can’t tell you how lucky I got when he signed on.”
The legacy of Bosch
“Bosch” has been a cornerstone of Amazon’s streaming service, running for seven seasons before transitioning to “Bosch: Legacy” in 2022. The original series aired on Prime Video, while “Legacy” found its home on Freevee. However, the final season will be available on both platforms, ensuring that fans can enjoy the conclusion of this remarkable journey.
Produced by Fabel Entertainment, the series has been a collaborative effort with executive producers Connelly, Eric Overmyer, Tom Bernardo, Henrik Bastin, Pieter Jan Brugge, and Welliver himself. Their combined efforts have created a show that has resonated deeply with its audience.
The Bosch universe expands
While “Bosch: Legacy” may be ending, the Bosch universe is far from over. Amazon has already greenlit a spinoff series focusing on cold case detective Renee Ballard, another character from Connelly’s novels. Maggie Q is set to star as Ballard, bringing a fresh perspective to the beloved universe.
“For ten years, ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’ have been two of our most defining series for Prime Video, Freevee, and Amazon MGM Studios,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television for Amazon MGM Studios. “They are a testament to the enduring power of the storytelling universe that Michael Connelly built for the fans. We are proud of the impact these series have made, and we are excited that Michael, Titus, Henrik, and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell in the ‘Bosch’ world with the final season of ‘Bosch: Legacy,’ our new Ballard series, and more to come.”
Reflections on a decade of storytelling
Henrik Bastin, one of the executive producers, shared his reflections on the series’ journey. “All great things must come to an end, and great is exactly what ‘Bosch’ and ‘Bosch: Legacy’ have been,” he said. “Over the past 10-plus years, serving as the executive producer for these incredible shows has been an absolute honor and privilege. To have played even a small part in bringing Michael Connelly’s iconic characters to the screen, and watching the formidable Titus Welliver breathe life into Harry Bosch, will always be the highlight of my career.”
Bastin also expressed his confidence in the future of the Bosch universe. “The Connelly universe lives on, and with Renée Ballard coming to Prime Video soon, I am confident that all fans of the ‘Bosch’ universe will be thrilled with what’s to come. To everyone who played alongside us over the years — the amazing cast and the best crew in the business, the team at Fabel Entertainment — you are the ones who made it all happen. I’d like to extend my deepest thanks to Amazon MGM Studios, who have been tremendous partners throughout the years. We truly appreciate the amazing run! And Michael, thank you for your trust and friendship. I owe you.”

As we prepare to bid farewell to “Bosch: Legacy”, it’s clear that the impact of this series will be felt for years to come. The dedication and passion of everyone involved have created a show that stands as a testament to the power of storytelling.
