A new psychological horror film emerges: ‘Beasts of Prey’
A fresh face in horror cinema
Carolyn Bracken, known for her role as the blind protagonist in Damian McCarthy’s chilling film “Oddity,” and seasoned actress Caroline Goodall, recognized for her performances in “Schindler’s List” and “The Fabelmans,” are set to star in Italian director Andrea Corsini’s latest psychological horror film, “Beasts of Prey.”
Filming in the picturesque north of Italy
The cameras have started rolling in the scenic regions of Lombardy and Piedmont in northern Italy for the English-language film “Beasts of Prey.” This film is described as a complex and thrilling story that delves into the perpetual conflict between the rational and animalistic sides of human nature.
From short to feature: Corsini’s vision
“Beasts of Prey” marks Corsini’s debut feature film, expanding on his short film of the same name. The short, which premiered at the 2019 Venice Film Festival’s Critics’ Week, tells the tale of a mysterious woman living in an abandoned villa on the edge of a wild forest. The feature film promises to delve deeper into this intriguing narrative.
A shattered life and a new beginning
The film’s synopsis reveals a gripping plot: “The life of a wealthy art collector is shattered by a tragic event. Overwhelmed by unbearable pain, an instinctive and primordial nature awakens within her, leading her to dismantle her privileged life and construct a new idea of family.”
Innovative production and visual effects
“Beasts of Prey,” known as “Ferine” in Italian, is produced by Francesco Grisi and Giorgia Priolo for EDI Effetti Digitali Italiani. This effects company recently won an Emmy for outstanding special visual effects in a single episode for Steven Zaillian’s series “Ripley.”
Grisi stated, “With ‘Ferine,’ we break the mold of traditional film production by redesigning it from the ground up with visual effects.” He added that the film will feature significant digital contributions, including the creation of full CGI creatures, and that the top-notch cast will give “Beasts of Prey” international appeal.
A musical touch from a legendary composer
Adding to the film’s potential is the involvement of veteran composer Pino Donaggio, known for his work with Brian De Palma on films such as “Carrie,” “Dressed to Kill,” and “Blow Out.” Donaggio will be scoring “Beasts of Prey,” while Fabrizio La Palombara, known for “Another End,” will serve as the cinematographer.
A new chapter in genre filmmaking
Marco Colombo, CEO of Adler Entertainment, the film’s Italian distributor, described “Beasts of Prey” as an “ambitious and deeply personal film that represents a new stage in Adler’s exploration of genre filmmaking.”
Final thoughts
“Beasts of Prey” promises to be a captivating addition to the psychological horror genre, blending a compelling narrative with innovative visual effects and a haunting score. With a talented cast and crew, this film is set to make a significant impact on audiences worldwide.
