Celebrating Joan Rivers: A night of laughter and legacy
Joan Rivers may have left us, but her legacy continues to inspire. This November, a star-studded fundraiser will honor the late comedy icon, supporting one of her most cherished charities.
A night to remember at the Apollo Theater
Dead Funny – An All-Star Tribute to Joan Rivers Benefiting God’s Love We Deliver is set to light up New York’s Apollo Theater on November 7. This event marks the official opening of the 20th annual New York Comedy Festival and coincides with the 10th anniversary of Rivers’ passing. Joan Rivers, who passed away at 81 on September 4, 2014, will be remembered through laughter and philanthropy.
A lineup of comedy greats
The tribute will feature performances by Michelle Buteau, Rachel Brosnahan, Nikki Glaser, Matteo Lane, and Randy Rainbow, with more names to be announced. Melissa Rivers, Joan’s daughter and frequent collaborator, is executive producing the event alongside Erich Bergen, a star of stage and screen.
“My mother always said, ‘Never be afraid to laugh at yourself, after all, you could be missing out on the joke of the century.’ This event will be hilarious, witty, and unapologetic with a little bit of humility,” said Melissa Rivers. “It’s like my mom’s spirit in party form. We’re bringing together some of the funniest people on the planet to celebrate her life and legacy. Remembering her this way, through humor and appreciation, all while supporting a cause that she cared deeply about is truly the only way she would have wanted.”
Joan Rivers and God’s Love We Deliver: A lasting bond
Joan Rivers dedicated over 25 years to God’s Love We Deliver, a nonprofit organization providing medically tailored meals and nutrition counseling to people with life-altering illnesses. She joined the board in 1994 and served as an ambassador, volunteering every Thanksgiving with her daughter Melissa and grandson Cooper. In honor of her contributions, the organization named the bakery in their SoHo headquarters The Joan Rivers Bakery.
God’s Love We Deliver has an impressive history of never having a waiting list for nearly 40 years. This year, they are on track to deliver around 5 million meals, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the community.
“Joan brought love, compassion, and humor to God’s Love We Deliver in every way, whether delivering meals, chopping veggies in our kitchen, or supporting events. She always left us laughing, and we are honored to celebrate her longtime support with this show,” said David Ludwigson, president and CEO of God’s Love We Deliver. “Joan is forever in our hearts.”
