Bruce Springsteen voices support for Harris and Walz in upcoming election
A rock legend’s political stance
In a heartfelt Instagram post on Thursday, Bruce Springsteen, affectionately known as “The Boss,” shared his political endorsement for the upcoming election. The iconic rocker, whose music has long resonated with working-class America, chose a familiar and relatable setting to discuss his views: the small-town diner.
Springsteen’s message to fans
Facing the camera with a sense of earnestness, Springsteen addressed his fans, friends, and the press. “People have been asking me who I’m supporting in this crucial election,” he began. “With full awareness that my opinions are just one among many, here’s my answer: I’m backing Kamala Harris for president and Tim Walz for vice president, and I stand against Donald Trump and J.D. Vance.”
The significance of the 2024 election
Springsteen, the voice behind the timeless anthem “Born in the U.S.A.,” emphasized the gravity of the 2024 election. He described it as one of the most pivotal moments in American history, drawing parallels to the nation’s division during the Civil War. “It doesn’t have to be this way,” he asserted. “The shared values and stories that unite us as a nation are waiting to be rediscovered. This will require time, hard work, intelligence, faith, and leaders with the national good at heart.”
Critique of the former president
Springsteen did not hold back in his criticism of former President Donald Trump. “Donald Trump is the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime,” he declared. “His disregard for the sanctity of our Constitution, democracy, the rule of law, and the peaceful transfer of power should disqualify him from ever holding office again. He doesn’t understand the essence of this country, its history, or what it means to be truly American.”
A vision for the future
Highlighting the qualities of Harris and Walz, Springsteen praised their commitment to a progressive vision for the nation. “They are dedicated to an inclusive future that respects people of all backgrounds, whether it be class, religion, race, political views, or sexual identity,” he said. “They aim to grow our economy in a way that benefits everyone, not just a select few like me. That’s the America I’ve been writing about for 55 years.”
A personal reflection
Springsteen concluded his message with a personal reflection on the importance of voting. “Everyone sees things differently, and I respect your choice as a fellow citizen. But like you, I have only one vote, and it’s one of my most precious possessions,” he shared. “That’s why, come Nov. 5, I’ll be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.”
