New sales agency aims to boost Latin American and Spanish content globally
A new venture in international content sales
In a strategic move to capitalize on the growing global interest in Latin American and Spanish content, Chile’s Rizoma, led by Sebastian Freund, and Ángel Zambrano’s Atlanta-based Condeco have launched Rizco Content Sales. This new international sales company aims to bring unique and powerful stories from these regions to a worldwide audience.
Successful collaborations pave the way
The formation of Rizco Content Sales follows the successful international sales of the Chilean miniseries “Cecilia Incomparable”, based on the life of Chilean singer Cecilia, and the Argentine-Chilean film “Salvajes”, both of which were licensed to Prime Video. These projects have demonstrated the potential and appeal of Latin American and Spanish content on global streaming platforms.
Dual headquarters for a global reach
Unveiled during the 4th Iberseries & Platino Industria in Madrid, Rizco Content Sales will operate from both Santiago and Atlanta. This dual-base strategy allows the company to leverage its founders’ extensive industry experience and connections, ensuring a robust presence in both the Latin American and North American markets.
A shared passion for storytelling
“Sebastián and I share a passion for telling stories that resonate with audiences around the world,” said Zambrano, a former Turner executive. “The content being produced in Latin America and Spain is increasingly gaining international attention. This partnership will not only allow us to expand our horizons but also bring unique and powerful stories to a global audience.”
Freund added, “With the advent of streaming platforms and the subsequent increase in demand for Spanish-language content, there has been a boom in production across Latin America and Spain. This partnership, with a focus on international sales, opens up endless possibilities for regional productions in the audiovisual market—whether films, series, third-party projects, or co-productions.”
New projects on the horizon
Rizco Content Sales has already signed on to represent several exciting new productions. These include:
- “Winnipeg, The Ship of Hope”: A Chile-Argentina-Spain co-production, this animated feature film is produced by El Otro Film Producciones, Antoni Marin Vila, Dibulitoon Factory, Dibulitoon Studio, and Malabar Producciones.
- “The Great History of Chilean Tennis”: A documentary produced by Surreal and directed by Cristián Leighton.
- “A Distant Place”: Directed by Alberto Lecchi, this drama is a co-production between Argentina, Chile, and Spain, produced by Twins Latin Films in collaboration with Compañía Filmakers Monkeys and Rizoma Films. The film is participating in the Co-Production and Financing Forum at this year’s Iberseries & Platino Industria.
Condeco’s upcoming projects
Condeco is also making waves with its upcoming projects, including the series “Vencer o Morir” (2024), an original Prime Video production, and the film “La Casaca Bendita” (2025), currently in pre-production with Frontera Films.
Rizoma’s track record of success
Rizoma has a proven track record of producing successful content. The company produced “Papá al Rescate” (2023), which was licensed to Netflix and ranked among the global Top 10 for non-English language films. The film’s theatrical release attracted over 300,000 admissions, and it garnered more than 1.5 million single user views in its first month on Netflix.
Additionally, Rizoma produced the most-watched film in Chilean cinema history, “Stefan vs Kramer”, which sold over two million admissions in local theaters and was licensed by both Netflix and Prime Video. Other notable co-productions include “La Misma Sangre” (2019), “El Hilo Rojo” (2016), and the priest scandal drama “El Bosque de Karadima”.
A bright future for Latin American and Spanish content
With the launch of Rizco Content Sales, Freund and Zambrano are poised to bring even more compelling stories from Latin America and Spain to a global audience. Their combined expertise and passion for storytelling will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of the region’s audiovisual market.
