Hasbro Entertainment ventures into unscripted TV with new division
A new chapter for Hasbro Entertainment
Hasbro Entertainment has taken a significant step forward by launching an unscripted television division. This new venture will be spearheaded by Zach Edwin, a seasoned development executive and producer. Edwin brings a wealth of experience from his previous role at the Intellectual Property Corporation, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Television — Nonfiction.
Exciting projects on the horizon
The newly formed division is already bustling with activity, boasting multiple projects in various stages of production and development across several networks. Among the most anticipated are game show adaptations of Trivial Pursuit, hosted by LeVar Burton, and Scrabble, hosted by Raven-Symoné. These shows, developed in collaboration with Lionsgate and creatively guided by Hasbro’s Steven Gelberg, are set to premiere on the CW on October 3.
Expanding the brand universe
In addition to these game shows, Hasbro is exploring TV formats that leverage other iconic brands such as Monopoly and Nerf. A reimagining of the classic board game Clue is also in the works, in partnership with Sony Pictures Television — Nonfiction (SPTNF).
Leadership and vision
In his new role, Edwin will oversee the expansion of Hasbro’s unscripted content slate and manage partnerships with Lionsgate and other key players in the industry. He will report directly to Gabriel Marano, head of TV at Hasbro Entertainment.
Edwin’s impressive portfolio includes work on unscripted series like Selena + Chef on Max, Indian Matchmaking on Netflix, Top Secret Videos with Ron Funches on TruTV, Pokemon: Trainer Tour on Amazon Prime Video, and the YouTube original series How To: Olympics and Mind Field. His projects have also featured on Discovery, National Geographic, and Food Network, among others.
A strategic move for Hasbro
“Hasbro Entertainment is committed to working with the best in the business to bring our beloved and iconic brands to life. Zach is an excellent fit to help us build an unscripted division befitting of Hasbro’s iconic history and portfolio,” said Marano. “He brings a wealth of experience shepherding major unscripted projects to the screen for top partners. With multiple major projects coming soon, we look forward to delighting wide audiences with shows as fun and exciting as the worlds they draw from.”
Edwin echoed this sentiment, expressing his enthusiasm for the new role. “Hasbro Entertainment is positioned to be a true leader in the unscripted space, wielding an amazing collection of historic, globally popular brands to create high-quality content for audiences worldwide,” he said. “I look forward to working in collaboration with Gabe and the rest of the Hasbro Entertainment team, as well as top-tier partners like Lionsgate and my former colleagues at SPTNF, to seize the huge opportunity ahead of us.”
The future of unscripted television
Hasbro Entertainment’s foray into unscripted television marks a strategic expansion of its content offerings. By leveraging its iconic brands and partnering with industry leaders, Hasbro is poised to make a significant impact in the unscripted TV landscape. With Edwin at the helm, the division is set to deliver innovative and engaging content that resonates with audiences worldwide.
