Bhairava finds himself amidst an ancient prophecy, navigating a world devastated by war and environmental destruction. Amitabh Bachchan portrays Ashwatthama, an immortal figure from the Indian epic “Mahabharata”, while Deepika Padukone brings to life Sumathi, pregnant with the unborn Kalki, an avatar of Vishnu. The movie is produced by Vyjayanthi Movies, a stalwart of the Indian film industry for over 50 years. Producers C. Aswani Dutt, Swapna Dutt, and Priyanka Dutt were present at the Busan International Film Festival, underscoring the film’s global appeal. The production of “Kalki 2898 AD” marked a significant financial risk, coming with a hefty $72 million budget. Nonetheless, the team expressed staunch confidence in director Nag Ashwin’s vision.

Looking ahead: sequels and beyond
Plans for a sequel are already in motion, promising an epic showdown between the characters played by Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. Swapna Dutt mentioned, “We’re definitely smarter this time around. Our understanding of the world, production processes, even the CG companies, is far better. The script is nearly finalized, with about 35% of the film already shot. We’re moving ahead swiftly.”
The “Kalki” universe holds expansive potential. Swapna Dutt hinted at multiple future projects: “With such a robust setup, we envision not just sequels, but also spin-offs. There’s potential for series, animation, and even comic books based on this world. Nag Ashwin has created an entire universe, with endless possibilities.”
The roadmap for Vyjayanthi Movies
Apart from the “Kalki” franchise, Vyjayanthi Movies is working on several exciting projects. “Champion” is a period action love story set in 1955, directed by debutant Pradeep Advaitham. Additionally, “Aakasam Lo Oka Tara”, starring Dulquer Salmaan and directed by Pavan Sadineni, is a family-based love story. Both films are set to release before the much-anticipated sequel of “Kalki 2898 AD”.
