Kamala Harris’ visit skyrockets “The View” ratings to new highs
Vice President Kamala Harris graced the stage of “The View” last Tuesday, injecting new energy into the popular chat show with her appearance. On October 8th, the show reached an outstanding 3.143 million viewers, making it the most-watched telecast since February 15, 2021.
Record-breaking viewership
The compelling discussions led by Harris propelled “The View” to clinch the top spot for the week of October 7. With a total viewer count of 2.597 million, the show saw a remarkable 12% increase from the same period last year, which stood at 2.316 million viewers. This surge marks the fifth consecutive week of rising ratings, making it the most-watched week since March 28, 2022.
Standing out among rivals
Harris’ presence gave “The View” a competitive edge, allowing it to surpass other rival daytime network talk and news shows. It left behind the third hour of NBC’s “Today” with its 1.943 million viewers. Similarly, “Today with Hoda & Jenna” and “NBC News Daily” both drew 1.265 million viewers, while CBS’ “The Talk” attracted 1.184 million viewers.
Consistent growth
Last week’s ratings growth wasn’t just a one-off spike. “The View” saw steady week-to-week gains across various demographics:
- Total viewers increased by 6%, reaching 2.597 million up from 2.449 million.
- The segment of women aged 25-54 saw a 7% rise to 192,000 from 180,000.
- Women aged 18-49 witnessed a 9% uptick to 138,000, compared to the previous 127,000.
Part of a media whirlwind
The Vice President’s appearance on “The View” was part of a strategic media blitz that included prominent appearances on “60 Minutes,” “The Howard Stern Show,” “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” and the podcast “Call Her Daddy.”
This segment marked Harris’ first live interview and talk show appearance since stepping into the role of the Democratic presidential nominee. During the show, she engaged in dynamic conversations with hosts Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Alyssa Farah Griffin, and Ana Navarro.
A celebrated return
Harris’ visit marked her eighth appearance on “The View.” She had last appeared on the show in January. It was also significant as it followed President Joe Biden’s guest spot on September 25, which had been the most-watched telecast of the season until Harris’ appearance.
Current season performance
With the latest numbers, “The View” is enjoying a strong season, topping the charts in total viewers with an average of 2.486 million. This impressive figure represents the show’s best viewership since the 2020-2021 season, solidifying its place as a go-to daytime talk show.
Kamala Harris’ recent visit to “The View” isn’t just a notable TV appearance; it’s a testament to her continued influence and the nation’s keen interest in her perspectives. With her contribution, the show has set a new benchmark for current and future telecasts.
