The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR), renowned for its celebration of cutting-edge cinema, has recently appointed Marten Rabarts as the new head of IFFR Pro. This decision, effective immediately, marks a significant chapter in the festival’s ongoing mission to nurture cinematic talent and innovation.
Rabarts, previously serving as the festival director at the New Zealand International Film Festival, brings a wealth of global experience to this role. His career spans several key positions, including his tenure as head of EYE International—now known as SeeNL—where he was pivotal in promoting Dutch film culture globally for four years. Additionally, he made significant contributions as the artistic director of the Binger Filmlab in Amsterdam for 12 years.
A dynamic collaboration
In his new role, Rabarts will work closely with IFFR’s festival director, Vanja Kaludjercic. Together, they aim to elevate IFFR Pro by continuing its tradition of supporting filmmakers through various programs, including the co-production market CineMart, Pro Hub, and the Rotterdam Lab talent development initiatives. Rabarts will report to Melissa van der Schoor, the chief of content, ensuring a cohesive and strategic approach to nurturing the next generation of cinema talent.

IFFR Pro is dedicated to providing filmmakers with the resources and networks necessary to develop their projects and careers. The remit covers several key areas, each designed to foster growth and innovation in the film industry:
- CineMart: A co-production market that matches filmmakers with potential partners, facilitating collaborations that bring unique cinematic visions to life.
- Pro Hub: A networking space where industry professionals can connect, share insights, and develop new projects.
- Rotterdam Lab: A talent development program that offers workshops, mentorship, and networking opportunities for emerging filmmakers.

The 54th edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 9, 2025. The IFFR Pro events will be held from January 31 to February 5, 2025, providing a platform for industry professionals to engage with new talent and innovative projects.
