Martin Short to inject fresh energy into Grimsburg season 2
A dynamic new character
Legendary comedian and actor Martin Short is about to bring his unique brand of humor to the second season of Fox’s animated comedy Grimsburg. Short, widely known for his role in “Only Murders in the Building”, will portray Otis Volcanowitz, the newest and youngest detective to join the Grimsburg police department.
This latest casting news was slated for an official announcement during the “Grimsburg” panel at the New York Comic-Con on Sunday. Fans of the show will eagerly anticipate how Short’s character will mesh with the established ensemble.
Short alongside Jon Hamm
In this season, Jon Hamm reprises his role as Det. Martin Flute. Hamm, who also serves as executive producer, brings a complicated and washed-up detective to life—one who’s excellent in his professional domain but less skilled as a family man or work partner.
Otis Volcanowitz is described as being unphased by the gritty streets of Grimsburg, having seen it all in his elementary school cubicles. He’s out to prove his worth not because of nepotism, despite his wealthy parents being the town’s major donors and owners of a lucrative volcano dump, but through his sharp detective skills honed since childhood.
Bringing depth to the animated world of Grimsburg
Grimsburg continues its narrative with Martin Flute attempting to reconcile with his ex-wife, Harmony (voiced by Erinn Hayes), who had a unique upbringing by bears. He also deals with his unstable son, Stan (Rachel Dratch), who often converses with his imaginary friend Mr. Flesh (Alan Tudyk).
Adding to the complexity, Martin interacts with his mentor Lieutenant John Kang (Greg Chun) and his cyborg partner Det. Greg Summers (Kevin Michael Richardson). This layered character development is part of what makes “Grimsburg” compelling.
A highlight of originality in animation
The show’s inception by Catlan McClelland and Matthew Schlissel has resulted in a unique blend of humor and intricate storytelling. Fully produced and owned by Fox Entertainment through Bento Box Entertainment, the series has garnered a loyal fan base since its premiere in January.
The renewal for a second season, set to return midseason on Fox and subsequently on Hulu, is a testament to its popularity. Chadd Gindin continues to serve as the showrunner and executive producer, ensuring the show’s vision remains consistent and dynamic.
Martin Short’s extensive voice-acting repertoire
Martin Short’s involvement in Grimsburg is particularly exciting given his prolific work in animated voiceovers. His previous roles include notable works like “The Willoughbys”, “The Addams Family”, “Big Mouth”, “The Cat in the Hat Knows a Lot About That”, “The Magic School Bus Rides Again”, “The Simpsons”, and “BoJack Horseman”. His ability to bring characters to life through voice acting will undoubtedly add a captivating layer to Otis Volcanowitz.
The magic of Grimsburg continues
Grimsburg‘s return with its rich blend of characters promises to be even more enthralling with the addition of Martin Short. The series’ ability to blend humor with complex relationships has set a high bar in animated storytelling, making it a must-watch for fans of the genre.
