Moonbug Entertainment welcomes Bea Miller to lead North American distribution
A new chapter for Moonbug Entertainment
Moonbug Entertainment, the renowned kids’ media and entertainment company behind the beloved series CoComelon, has announced a significant addition to its team. Beatriz (“Bea”) Miller has been appointed as the senior director of distribution and originals for North America. This strategic move is set to bolster Moonbug’s expansion efforts in the region.
Bea Miller’s impressive background
Miller brings a wealth of experience to Moonbug, having spent seven years at Netflix. During her tenure, she played a pivotal role in the streamer’s global strategy and operations, leading cross-functional and cross-regional teams. Her expertise in developing and implementing new processes and tools for content acquisition was instrumental in Netflix’s success. Additionally, Miller managed end-to-end commercial deals with partners, showcasing her prowess in the industry.
Before her time at Netflix, Miller served as the head of global digital media and rights distribution at NBCUniversal/Telemundo. There, she directed a team responsible for global distribution and oversaw commercial deals, further solidifying her reputation as a leader in content strategy and sales.
Moonbug’s strategic vision
Nicolas Eglau, Moonbug’s managing director of global distribution, expressed his enthusiasm about Miller’s appointment. “As Moonbug revs up our expansion efforts in the North America markets in originals and distribution, we are thrilled to be bringing on someone with such an impressive track record in both sales and content strategy to spearhead this growth,” Eglau stated. “Bea Miller’s expertise in the acquisition and sale of content perfectly positions her to scale Moonbug’s presence in the U.S. and beyond.”
Moonbug’s recent successes
Moonbug, part of Tom Stagg and Kevin Mayer’s Candle Media roll-up media venture, has seen remarkable success with its content. In the first half of 2024, CoComelon was the No. 1 most-viewed licensed content on Netflix, amassing 124.5 million views. Additionally, the two seasons of “CoComelon Lane,” a Netflix original produced by Moonbug, garnered 34.4 million views. Moonbug’s “Little Angel” series also achieved significant viewership, with 52.4 million views over its five volumes on Netflix.
Miller’s vision for Moonbug
Miller shared her excitement about joining Moonbug, stating, “As a longtime admirer of the global entertainment powerhouse Moonbug Entertainment has become, I am so excited to join the team and help supercharge the company’s North America expansion. With a 1-year-old at home, I also know firsthand the importance of safe, engaging, and educational content and look forward to ensuring more families get a chance to interact with Moonbug’s suite of family-favorite shows.”
Expanding the team
In addition to Miller’s appointment, Moonbug has made several other key hires and promotions. Katelynn Heil has been promoted to the newly created position of head of brand marketing and franchise strategy, while Mike Katzman has been named Blippi general manager. The company also welcomed Juliette Premmereur as the senior director of social media and Manuel Reveiz as the director of distribution and partnerships for Latin America. Earlier this year, Moonbug recruited digital media and music veteran Courtney Holt as managing director for the Americas.
Candle Media’s investment in Moonbug
Candle Media, backed by private-equity giant Blackstone, acquired Moonbug in 2021 in a $3 billion deal. Since its founding in 2018, Moonbug has distributed its programming on more than 150 video platforms globally, including Netflix, Disney+, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube Kids. The company’s preschool music and audio content is available on over 100 audio platforms worldwide, and it also operates consumer products and live events lines of business.
