Amazon MGM Studios appoints Tom Lieber as the new head of UK scripted series
A strategic move to strengthen UK presence
In a strategic move to bolster its influence in the UK television landscape, Amazon MGM Studios has appointed Tom Lieber as the new head of scripted series, UK. Previously at the helm of genre programming, Lieber's promotion signifies the studio's commitment to expanding its foothold in the region's competitive creative market.
A seamless transition of leadership
Lieber’s new role will see him directly reporting to Laura Lancaster, the head of co-pro television and ongoing series. The announcement was made in an internal note by Vernon Sanders, head of TV at Amazon MGM Studios. In his note, Sanders stated, “In this new role, Tom will provide single-threaded leadership of all new development and ongoing series produced in the U.K. The work and executives that were formerly assigned to our Pan-English team will fold into Tom’s new group.”
This organizational change coincides with the departure of TV veteran Rola Bauer, who recently stepped down as the head of English-language global original series produced outside the U.S.
Enhancing creative synergies with UK talent
With the recent acquisition of Bray Film Studios and an expanding slate of UK-based productions, Amazon MGM Studios is poised to leverage Lieber's expertise in managing high-impact global tentpole series. According to Sanders, “Tom's success in steering major series like ‘The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power,’ ‘Fallout,’ and ‘The Wheel of Time’ makes him exceptionally well-suited to deepen our ties with the UK creative community and drive our production ambitions forward.”

All new scripted development will now pass through Tom Lieber and his team. Erer will also continue overseeing unscripted content, UK-based films, and other International Originals for Northern Europe, reporting to James Farrell.
Engaging with UK’s robust creative industry
This reshuffle is a clear signal of Amazon MGM Studios' intent to play a pivotal role in the UK's vibrant television and film industry.
