Indonesian JAFF market debuts with Adelaide festival collaboration
A promising partnership unfolds
The Indonesian film industry is buzzing with excitement as the inaugural JAFF Market prepares to welcome two groundbreaking Australian projects to its JAFF Future Project platform. This marks a significant collaboration with the esteemed Adelaide Film Festival (AFF). Scheduled alongside the Jogja-Netpac Asian Film Festival (JAFF) in Yogyakarta from December 3-5, this initiative is set to push the boundaries of creative exchange between Indonesia, Australia, and beyond.
Spotlight on selected projects
Raesita Grey, directed, produced, and written by Katrina Irawati Graham, and Until Death by Ben Golotta, are two prominent Australian projects that have been selected for this momentous event. Backed by the Australian government, the AFF will facilitate the participation of two core team members, including producers, from each project. This support is a testament to the growing importance of cross-cultural collaborations in the film industry.
Deepening industry connections
This partnership extends AFF’s long-standing relationship with JAFF, further enriching the cultural tapestry woven over years of shared cinematic exploration. A new dimension is added with mylab, an international development initiative featuring diverse participants from across Asia, joining as a collaborator. The involvement of mylab underscores the global aspirations of the JAFF Market and the broader festival.
Mat Kesting, the CEO and creative director of AFF, reflects on the journey, stating, “The AFF and Jogja NETPAC Asian Film Festival Exchange has been an incredibly satisfying experience.” Such sentiments highlight the mutual benefits and enriching experiences resulting from these international partnerships.
Emphasis on fruitful exchanges
Ifa Isfansyah, the chair of the JAFF Market, along with Lorna Tee, the curator of mylab, are incredibly optimistic about fostering “more fruitful connections and vibrant exchanges” between the Indonesian, Asian, and Australian film industries.
