UPDATED: “Suits LA” is getting a visitor from New York City. Gabriel Macht, who portrayed successful and charismatic attorney Harvey Specter in the original “Suits” is set to appear in the NBC spinoff in a recurring role across three episodes.
Macht posted a video on his official Instagram account in which he appeared to be getting into costume as Specter with the caption, “When an old friend is in need…it’s time to take care of things and make those very ‘things’ right.”
When “Suits” wrapped up in 2019, Harvey and his wife, Donna (Sarah Rafferty), moved to Seattle, working alongside Mike Ross (Patrick J. Adams) and Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle). While Adams and Markle exited the show early, Macht appeared in all 134 episodes of the nine-season drama.
Popular on Variety Reps for NBC did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Macht joining the spinoff.
While the spinoff, created by Aaron Korsh, will take place in the same universe as the original, it will follow a new law firm in Los Angeles led by Ted Black (Stephen Amell). Ted, however, is a former New York prosecutor, so it’s possible he has a connection to the best closer in New York City.
“Suits,” produced by UCP, originally aired on USA Network. In 2023, when it landed on Netflix, it topped the charts for multiple weeks and ultimately surpassed 45 billion minutes on Netflix and Peacock combined. The massive resurgence led to Macht appearing with his costars Adams, Rafferty and Gina Torres to present at the Golden Globe Awards in January.
“It’s an amazing thing,” Macht said at the time. “We had some great success when the show was on. All over the world, there were people downloading it, pirating, downloading it. At a certain point, Netflix came in and said, ‘Why don’t we put this out there.’ And it’s just gotten incredible eyes. And we’re very grateful for it.”
In June, multiple members of the “Suits” cast reunited at the ATX TV Festival and Adams agreed he’d be up to get the original cast back together. “I am a person of no power or authority, but obviously, there’s a ‘Suits: LA‘ show that is being made. That is the focus of Aaron, I think he would agree,” he said. “But it’s definitely something he’s interested in doing, in trying to get the band back together. So it depends on a million things if that can happen, but is it possible? I think it is possible.”
Currently, Adams and Rafferty are hosting a “Suits” rewatch podcast.
“Suits LA,” which stars Josh McDermitt, Lex Scott Davis and Bryan Greenberg, premieres on NBC on Feb. 23.
Deadline first reported that Macht would be joining “Suits: LA.”
