Baby Reindeer actress Jessica Gunning and One Day star Ambika Mod were among the winners at Friday’s Women in Film & TV Awards, where U.K. chef and presenter Dame Mary Berry was honoured with The Lifetime Achievement Award.
Hosted by comedian Katherine Ryan, the guests at London’s Park Lane Hilton event also included Emilia Pérez leads Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón, Rivals‘ Katherine Parkinson, and Doctor Who boss Russell T. Davies.
In partnership with Sky, the awards on Friday were WFTV‘s 33rd edition of the ceremony, honoring winners across 14 categories including directing, writing, producing, performance, business and contribution to the medium in the U.K. “All women are absolute game-changers in their various roles across the industries,” WFTV CEO Katie Bailiff told The Hollywood Reporter. “Both on-camera and off-camera. We don’t divide it into craft, like some awards do — that’s really important.”
DJ Edith Bowman presented The Argonon Best Performance Award to actor Gunning, honoring her work on screen as Martha in the critically acclaimed Netflix dark comedy series Baby Reindeer, created by Richard Gadd.
Emilia Perez stars Zoe Saldana and Karla Sofía Gascón presented The Netflix New Talent Award to Mod. Mod has had a breakout year with her first lead role performance as the much-loved Emma Morley in Netflix’s One Day this year, following her earlier success in the acclaimed series This Is Going to Hurt.
Meanwhile, the EIKON Presenter Award was awarded to chef, author, television and radio broadcaster Andi Oliver, handed to her by Meera Syal CBE for her work as the host of BBC’s Great British Menu, Food Unwrapped, and as a contributing chef and host of Saturday Kitchen.
BAFTA-nominated director Juliet Riddell was given The ITV Studios Achievement of the Year Award. With over 20 years of experience in TV and Film, including two BAFTA-winning arts series with Grayson Perry for Channel 4 and prime-time factual programs for BBC, ITV and Sky Arts, Riddell is currently head of new formats for The Financial Times.
Food writer, judge, and author Mary Berry received The EON Productions Lifetime Achievement Award, with former fellow Great British Bake Off colleague Sue Perkins handing her the accolade. In addition to her TV credentials, Berry has written over 70 books and at 89 has solidified herself as a British icon of the screen. She joins a list of previous WFTV Lifetime Achievement award-winners, including Judi Dench, Katharine Hepburn, Helen Mirren, Joanna Lumley, Esther Rantzen, Vanessa Redgrave and Maggie Smith.
The Paramount Contribution to the Medium Award was presented to Kirsty Wark by Emily Maitlis. From hosting The Late Show to leading election specials and live stadium events, Wark has been a prominent figure on the BBC’s flagship nightly current affairs program Newsnight since 1993.
Rivals star Parkinson presented The ENVY Producer Award to Daisy Allsop (producer, Archface Films). Daisy produced the first film to be written and directed by a filmmaker with Down Syndrome, The Puppet Asylum, a 30-minute short.
The awards on Friday will celebrate the best of WFTV; women who set the example for the wealth of industry talent, Bailiff told THR. WFTV has doubled its membership over the last three years, coming up to nearly 4,000 ahead of 2025. They run a senior leadership course, as well as offer help to those in mid-level roles. They provide workshops and mentor schemes for younger creatives and this year alone have put on 200 events to screen or celebrate the work of women in the U.K.
