Natasha Lyonne had a moment of mistaken identity — at least to Jennifer Coolidge.
While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, the Poker Face actress was asked if there was a time when she was ever mistaken for another celebrity, which led Lyonne to point to a funny exchange with Coolidge.
“Oh yeah, I remember once I dropped out for a while … and Jennifer Coolidge saw me at the Chateau Marmont. I had straight hair, and she thought I was Hilary Duff, and I was so confused,” Lyonne said.
She continued, “Maybe I’ve become too well, you know what I mean. Because whatever I’m projecting is something I’ve gotta scratch real quick. I have lost my edge.”
Despite being confused by the mix-up, Lyonne went on to compliment Duff, who worked with Coolidge on the 2004 film A Cinderella Story. “Hilary seems like a lovely person, and sometimes I’ll look at pictures of her and I think, ‘Maybe this is a good thing! I think they mean this kindly,’”
When host Josh Horowitz asked what their exchange was once Coolidge realized her mistake, Lyonne recalled it not going “very far.” She said Coolidge simply said, “Oh! I thought you were Hilary Duff.’” “And I was like, ‘I’m not,’ and it was over,” Lyonne said.
“I would rather be mistaken for Keith Richards or something,” Lyonne quipped. “But I guess I’m a Hilary Duff sort; you guys can see that.”
In the Cinderella Story film, which offers a modern take on the classic fairy tale, Coolidge starred as Fiona, the wicked stepmother to Duff’s Sam. Meanwhile, Coolidge also co-starred alongside Lyonne in the 1999 film American Pie.
