Briarcliff Entertainment to release “Magazine Dreams” in 2025
A new chapter for “Magazine Dreams”
“Magazine Dreams,” a gripping sports drama featuring Jonathan Majors, has found a new home with Briarcliff Entertainment. Initially acquired by Searchlight Pictures at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, the film’s journey took an unexpected turn after Majors faced legal issues. Now, Briarcliff Entertainment is set to bring this intense narrative to theaters in early 2025.
The story behind “Magazine Dreams”
Written and directed by Elijah Bynum, “Magazine Dreams” delves into the life of Killian Maddox, an aspiring bodybuilder who resorts to steroid abuse in his quest for fame. The film’s raw portrayal of ambition and its consequences sparked a bidding war among major studios, including Neon, Sony Pictures Classics, and HBO, before Searchlight initially secured the domestic rights.
Briarcliff’s vision for the film
Tom Ortenberg, CEO of Briarcliff Entertainment, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “Elijah’s film made a well-deserved splash in Sundance, and Briarcliff is looking forward to taking his story to the big screen across the country in early 2025. Jonathan Majors’ transcendent performance as Killian Maddox will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the most compelling and transformative roles in recent cinema history. We are honored to bring this extraordinary work to theaters nationwide, inviting audiences to witness a story that will resonate long after the credits roll.”
Briarcliff Entertainment’s track record
Briarcliff Entertainment has a history of distributing impactful films. Their portfolio includes the Liam Neeson thriller “The Marksman,” the supernatural thriller “Don’t Let Go,” and the sports biopic “Sweetwater.” This October, they will release “The Apprentice,” a biographical drama featuring Sebastian Stan as a young Donald Trump.
Jonathan Majors’ career amidst controversy
Jonathan Majors, known for his roles in “Lovecraft Country” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” faced significant career setbacks following his conviction for domestic assault and harassment. Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe severed ties with the Emmy-winning actor, who was slated to appear in future installments, including the now-renamed “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty,” set for release in 2026.
Despite these challenges, Majors remains determined to continue his career in Hollywood. He has denied the assault allegations and is set to star in the independent revenge thriller “Merciless,” directed by Martin Villeneuve, brother of acclaimed director Denis Villeneuve.
The future of “Magazine Dreams”
With Briarcliff Entertainment at the helm, “Magazine Dreams” is poised to captivate audiences nationwide. The film’s exploration of ambition, identity, and the human condition promises to leave a lasting impact. As the release date approaches, anticipation builds for what is sure to be a memorable addition to the cinematic landscape.
