M-Appeal secures new film deals at major Asian market
Berlin-based sales agency M-Appeal has achieved significant success at the Asian Contents and Film Market, held in conjunction with the Busan Film Festival. The agency has closed a series of new deals for its recent film offerings, showcasing a diverse lineup that includes “Perfect Endings,” “Sex,” “Love,” and “Vera and the Pleasure of Others.”
The promising gay rom-com: Perfect Endings
One of the standout titles is Perfect Endings, a gay romantic comedy directed by Daniel Ribeiro. Known for his award-winning work, Ribeiro crafts a compelling story featuring João (Artur Volpi), a man navigating the tumultuous waters of dating after the end of a decade-long relationship. This fresh take on modern romance also touches upon João’s transition into directing amateur erotic films, adding a unique layer to the narrative. The film’s nuanced approach to relationships and sexuality makes it a noteworthy addition to M-Appeal’s portfolio.
Expanding to new territories
Outplay Films has picked up the French distribution rights for “Perfect Endings.” The company’s head of international sales expressed enthusiasm about bringing such a distinctive film to French audiences. Additionally, the film has been sold to North America through Dark Star Pictures and Uncork’d Entertainment, while Cinemien has secured distribution rights across several European countries including Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Benelux, Poland, Italy, and Portugal.
Norwegian trilogy explores contemporary relationships
Dag Johan Haugerud’s trilogy, comprising “Sex” and “Love”, delves into the complexities of modern relationships and sexuality. These films have garnered significant attention and have been acquired by Imovision for theatrical release in Brazil. Imovision, known for its daring and original lineup, is eager to see how Brazilian audiences will respond.
A critical success at festivals
Both “Sex” and “Love” have already made an impact, with “Love” winning the Bisato d’Oro award at the Venice Film Festival. These movies explore human connections in a raw, unfiltered manner, making them appealing to audiences interested in bold cinematography that challenges conventional norms.
Voyeurism and teenage curiosity
The Argentine film “Vera and the Pleasure of Others”, directed by Romina Tamburello and Federico Actis, delves into the theme of teenage voyeurism. The film has secured distribution deals with Palace Films for Australia and Encripta for Latin America. Its intriguing premise and thoughtful direction make it a valuable addition to M-Appeal’s eclectic collection.
A cup of coffee and new shoes on: A gripping drama
“A Cup of Coffee and New Shoes On”, featuring twin actors Edgar and Rafael Morais, has also been acquired by Encripta for Latin America. This drama, directed by Gentian Koçi, paints a poignant picture of familial relationships and personal struggles, contributing to its compelling narrative.
M-Appeal’s strategic impact
The strategic moves made by M-Appeal in closing these deals demonstrate its expertise and strong presence in the international film market. By partnering with well-regarded distributors across various regions, M-Appeal ensures that diverse and culturally rich films reach a broader audience. This approach not only amplifies the agency’s influence but also enriches the global cinematic landscape with unique, thought-provoking content.
Staying ahead in the market
In an era where global reach is crucial, M-Appeal’s ability to secure wide-ranging deals highlights its authoritative standing in the industry.
