Legendary “Pulp Fiction” producer Lawrence Bender has boarded “Red Alert,” a new Israel drama inspired by real-life events, as exec producer.
Five-part series “Red Alert” is based on the terror attacks of Oct. 7, telling the stories of five citizens who found themselves in unimaginable life-or-death situations as cold-blooded slaughter takes place around them.
“This multicharacter drama blends incredible human stories of bravery, resilience, and defiance – many of which made news headlines around the world in the aftermath of this shocking terror attack – with intense military action,” reads the logline.
Over a thousand people were murdered by Hamas terrorists and a further two hundred were taken hostage to Gaza during the attacks last year.
Popular on Variety “Red Alert,” whose title is taken from Israel’s emergency warning signal indicating an imminent threat, was developed in consultation with survivors and victims’ families.
Lior Chefetz (“The Stronghold”) created the series, which he wrote and will also direct. It is co-created by Ruth Efroni and co-written by Kineret Peled and Idan Hubel.
The series will be filmed in Israel, with principal photography set for spring 2025. It will be shot in Hebrew, Arabic and English with a premiere on Keshet 12 tentatively set for October 2025, to mark the second anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks.
“For a while, there seemed to be no reasonable dramatic approach to retell such a profound event,” said Karni Ziv, Keshet 12’s head of drama. “We needed time and perspective to find the right project and the right creative partners to help us tell this story in the right way. In ‘Red Alert,’ the human drama transcends the war, which sometimes serves as background and sometimes as the story itself, to deliver a message of hope and solidarity.”
Bender added: “‘Red Alert’ will embark on an intense and emotional journey that explores the indomitable human spirit. This international action drama will showcase the unwavering resolve of real people who confront unimaginable challenges to create a compelling viewing experience.”
The show is produced by Green Productions (“Golda”) alongside Bender Brown Productions (“Roswell”) with Israeli network Keshet 12, distributor Keshet International and multiple funding partners.
Producers are Green Productions’ Maya Fischer, Shani Ettinger Sror, Roi Kurland and Gal Greenspan while joining Bender as exec producers are Jordana Reuben Yechiel, Lisa Boyan, Mika Rodeh, Kevin Brown, IEF’s Nati Dinnar and Russel Robinson, Keshet Media Group’s Avi Nir, Keshet Broadcasting’s Karni Ziv, Yuval Horowitz and Eze Sakson and Keshet International’s Keren Shahar and Kelly Wright.
