Following a string of changes in recent years as Technicolor Group restructured its business around visual effects, the company has appointed industry vet David Conley as the new president of its VFX brand MPC, whose work includes VFX Oscar winner “The Jungle Book,” Oscar nominated “The Lion King” and upcoming prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King.”
Most recently, Conley served as an executive producer at Wētā FX, for which he worked on productions including James Cameron’s VFX Oscar winning “Avatar: The Way of Water” and Emmy VFX winning series “The Last of Us.” With more than two decades of experience in the VFX industry, his credits also include “Avengers: Endgame,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” and “War for the Planet of the Apes.”
London-headquartered MPC maintains offices or facilities in Montreal, Toronto, Paris, Liege, Adelaide, Bangalore and Mumbai. It’s recent and upcoming working also includes Oscar contender “Emilia Perez,” Prime series “The Boys,” and Disney’s live action adaptations of “Snow White” and “Lilo and Stitch.”
Popular on Variety Technicolor Group encompasses MPC as well as The Mill, Mikros Animation and Technicolor Games. It sold its Technicolor Post business to Streamland Media in 2021. MPC made various structural and management changes since then.
According to today’s announcement from Technicolor, Conley aims to “expand [MPC’s] creative partnerships with filmmakers by combining creative excellence with advanced trends in technology to deliver innovative content.” Conley will report directly to Technicolor CEO Caroline Parot and chief business and strategy officer Andrea Miloro.
Parot and Miloro said in a joint statement: “David’s appointment embodies our commitment to delivering world-class visual experiences. Renowned as a visionary creative leader, his passion for pioneering emerging technologies perfectly aligns with our mission to redefine the boundaries of possibility in visual effects.”
