Glen Powell to guest star in ‘Family Guy’ Halloween special
A spooky treat for ‘Family Guy’ fans
Current box office sensation Glen Powell (“Twisters,” “Hit Man”) is set to make a guest appearance in the first of two “Family Guy” holiday specials, exclusively on Hulu. The Halloween-themed episode, premiering on October 14, will feature Powell as Patrick McCloskey, the reigning champion of Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest. Adding to the excitement, Derek Jacobi (“Gosford Park,” “Gladiator”) will lend his voice to Stewie’s beloved teddy bear, Rupert.
The plot thickens
In this Halloween episode, Peter and his friends are determined to dethrone the reigning champion, played by Powell, in Quahog’s annual Pumpkin Contest. The lengths they go to achieve this goal promise to be both hilarious and outrageous. The announcement of Powell and Jacobi’s roles was made during the “Family Guy” panel at San Diego Comic-Con, where fans were also teased with a Christmas special to follow.
Celebrating 25 years of ‘Family Guy’
The panel at Comic-Con was a star-studded affair, featuring voice stars like Alex Borstein, who brought along a “Saggy Naggy” Lois Griffin doll available for purchase, Seth Green, Jennifer Tilly, Gary Cole, and Mike Henry. Executive producers Rich Appel, Alec Sulkin, Steve Callaghan, and Kara Vallow joined the celebration, marking the 25th anniversary of the series.
A midseason return for Season 23
The Halloween episode will serve as a delightful appetizer for fans eagerly awaiting the midseason return of “Family Guy” for its 23rd season. This marks the first time since 2005 that the animated series hasn’t been part of the network’s fall schedule.
What to expect in Season 23
Season 23 promises a plethora of entertaining storylines and parodies. Among the highlights:
- Peter accidentally reveals his inability to throw a ball.
- Meg starts dating the giant chicken’s son.
- Chris loses his earring in a “Lord of the Rings”-inspired adventure.
- Stewie discovers that his stuffed bear Rupert was made in China and embarks on a mission to take him back to meet his family.
The season will also feature a parody of “The White Lotus,” with the Griffin family vacationing at a luxury resort where Stewie fears his wealthy new friends plan to sacrifice him in a volcano.
More parodies and guest appearances
Other parodies include takes on “Top Gun” (“Fat Gun”) and “Alone,” along with satirical bits on the Supreme Court and George Santos. Fans will also get a glimpse of the real Pete Davidson, who humorously reveals his dating secret: “I just text back promptly!” Additionally, Stewie and Lois share a unique bonding moment over weed, leading to Lois hearing Stewie talk for the first time.
A musical moment to remember
At the Comic-Con panel, Alex Borstein brought the house down with her rendition of the signature “Barbie” song “What Was I Made For,” performed in the voice of Lois Griffin. This performance was inspired by the episode “You Can’t Handle the Booth,” where creator Seth MacFarlane tells the characters that they’re not real.
