Eugene and Dan Levy to host the 76th Emmy Awards
A night to remember: The Levys take center stage
With less than a month to go before the 76th Emmy Awards, the anticipation is building as the hosts for the evening have been announced. The dynamic father-son duo, Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, will be emceeing this year’s event, set to take place on Sunday, September 15, live on ABC.
A historic moment for the Levys
The Levys made history in 2020 by becoming the first father and son to win major awards in the same year, thanks to their work on “Schitt’s Creek”. That year, which saw winners appearing remotely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was a landmark for the duo. Eugene Levy won for outstanding comedy actor, while Dan Levy took home the award for supporting comedy actor. Dan also picked up wins for writing and directing, and both Levys won the outstanding comedy series Emmy as executive producers.
“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television and can’t wait to spend the evening with you all on September 15.”
The first father-son hosting duo
Eugene and Dan Levy are the first-ever father-son hosting partners for the Emmys. They are also the first duo to host since 2018, when Colin Jost and Michael Che co-hosted, and only the second duo to host this century. Their comedic intuition and ability to capture the hearts of viewers promise a memorable Emmys telecast honoring this year’s best and brightest.
Eugene Levy’s big night
This year, Eugene Levy is nominated for his Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy”, which is up for outstanding hosted nonfiction series or special. This nomination adds another layer of excitement to an already significant night for the Levy family.
A legacy of laughter
Eugene Levy is known for his work on “SCTV”, the “American Pie” franchise, and films such as “Bringing Down the House”, “Cheaper by the Dozen 2”, and “Father of the Bride Part II”. He will also be seen in the new season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building”.
Dan Levy, on the other hand, has been busy with his production company, Not a Real Production Company, which has been behind Max’s “The Big Brunch” and his directorial debut, “Good Grief”. He is also working on the upcoming documentary “Lilith Fair” and has recently appeared in the final season of HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, Season 4 of Netflix’s “Sex Education”, Disney’s “Haunted Mansion” remake, and Hulu’s holiday rom-com “Happiest Season”. Next up for Dan are projects like Paramount’s animated “The Smurfs Movie”, “Animal Friends”, and Kornel Mundruczó’s drama “At the Sea”.
The production team behind the magic
The Emmy producers, Jesse Collins, Dionne Harmon, and Jeannae Rouzan-Clay of Jesse Collins Entertainment, who earned accolades for producing the previous Emmy telecast hosted by Anthony Anderson, will be working closely with the Levys. The production team for the 76th Emmy Awards includes returning members from the well-received 75th Emmy Awards telecast on Fox, such as co-executive producer Brittany Brazil, producer Taryn Hurd, production designer Brian Stonestreet, and head writer Jon Macks. Emmy Award winner Rickey Minor is back as music director for the sixth time, with lighting designer Noah Mitz and screens producer Drew Findley also returning. Eric Cook joins the team as co-executive producer.
A night of celebration
The 76th Emmys will air live from the Peacock Theater at L.A. Live in Los Angeles on Sunday, September 15 (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT), on ABC, and will be available for streaming the next day on Hulu. This year’s Emmys promise to be a night of celebration, laughter, and recognition of the best in television, with Eugene and Dan Levy at the helm.
