Chanel West Coast: From ‘Ridiculousness’ to ‘The West Coast Hustle’
Chanel West Coast, known for her infectious laugh on “Rob Dyrdek’s Fantasy Factory” and “Ridiculousness,” is stepping into a new chapter of her life. With over 700 episodes of “Ridiculousness” under her belt, Chanel is ready to showcase her multifaceted talents and personal life in her new reality show, “The West Coast Hustle.”
A new beginning: Chanel’s journey to her own show
For years, Chanel West Coast, whose real name is Chelsea Chanel Dudley, has been yearning for her own show. Despite her success on “Ridiculousness,” she felt that her true potential was overshadowed. “A common comment I would see is, ‘You’re just the girl that laughs on a couch.’ They have no idea how hard I work outside of ‘Ridiculousness,’” Chanel shared with Variety.
Chanel’s passion for music is undeniable. She has toured cross-country, opened for big names like Lil’ Wayne and Cardi B, and has been dedicated to her independent music career. However, her achievements in music often went unnoticed due to her association with “Ridiculousness.”
The birth of “The West Coast Hustle”
Following her departure from “Ridiculousness,” Chanel announced an overall deal with Paramount, which included her new reality show, “The West Coast Hustle.” The show, debuting on MTV on July 18, chronicles her life as a mother, girlfriend, swimwear designer, and independent recording artist.
Chanel’s decision to let the cameras into her life was not easy. “I’ve been trying to get my own show for years. I made a million trailers and nothing was really biting. I took a break from trying and matured a little bit,” she explained. The opportunity came at the right time, and she saw the advantages of the platform for herself, her model boyfriend Dom Fenison, and their daughter, Bowie Breeze.
A mother’s motivation
Chanel’s motivation for the show was deeply rooted in her desire to create a better future for her daughter. “I grew up in LA. There’s a lot of nepo babies out here, and I realized this could be the thing that changes my daughter’s life,” she said. Despite her hesitations, she knew that the show could bring greater opportunities.
Leaving “Ridiculousness” was a difficult decision for Chanel. “There were lots of tears and emotions and a lot to mentally go through,” she admitted. However, the birth of her daughter made her realize that it was time to move on and focus on her music career, which is her true passion.
The challenges of reality TV
Letting the cameras capture every aspect of her life came with its challenges. Chanel struggled with her appearance after giving birth and undergoing liposuction. “Being super transparent, the toughest thing for me to watch back was just not being my best looking self. On top of having a baby, I had extra bloating from lipo. I was 40-50 pounds overweight still. I’ve lost all that weight now,” she revealed.
Chanel was also used to being in full glam while on camera, which was not always the case on her reality show. “I’m like, do I want to let the world see me on camera with no makeup? I don’t want it to hurt my career. Maybe I’ll never get an acting job or something if they see me looking like this,” she said. However, she realized the importance of being authentic and letting people see her true self.
A hands-on approach
For the first time, Chanel was able to be hands-on with every aspect of the project, controlling what was and wasn’t shown. Although she had been on 30 seasons of “Ridiculousness,” she never became an executive producer. “I wish I could have. I am such a creative, and I have so many ideas, but that is Rob’s show. That’s his baby,” she said.
Chanel’s journey from “Ridiculousness” to “The West Coast Hustle” is a testament to her determination and passion. She is ready to show the world her true self and the hard work that goes into her music career and personal life. As she embarks on this new chapter, Chanel West Coast is poised to make a lasting impact.
