The historic El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood will host the event, which will be livestreamed on the official Emmy website and YouTube. Fans can also catch the stream via the Television Academy’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok accounts.
A star-studded announcement
Emmy Award winners Tony Hale, known for his role in “Veep,” and Sheryl Lee Ralph from “Abbott Elementary,” will host the announcement alongside Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego. Their presence adds a touch of glamour and excitement to the event, making it a must-watch for TV enthusiasts.
Top drama contenders: A battle of epic proportions
This year, the drama category is fiercely competitive, with several high-profile series vying for the top spot. Disney+’s “Ahsoka” is a strong contender, bringing the Star Wars universe to the small screen with a fresh perspective. Netflix’s “The Crown” continues to captivate audiences with its portrayal of the British monarchy, while “3 Body Problem” promises to be a sci-fi epic of grand proportions.
Prime Video’s “Fallout” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” are also in the running, offering a mix of post-apocalyptic drama and action-packed espionage. Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” returns with its gripping newsroom drama, and FX’s “Shōgun” is expected to be a standout, with Variety’s senior awards editor Clayton Davis predicting it will take the top honor.

Max’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Hacks” are also strong contenders, bringing their unique comedic styles to the forefront.
Apple TV+’s “Loot” and Netflix’s “The Gentlemen” add to the diverse lineup, while FX’s “What We Do in the Shadows” offers a hilarious take on vampire life. Last year’s Emmy winner, “The Bear,” is also expected to be a strong contender once again.

Predictions and reflections
Clayton Davis predicts that “Shōgun” will reign supreme, followed by its FX counterpart “The Bear” and Prime Video’s “Fallout.” However, given the sheer volume of series and performers, Davis also predicts that Netflix will have the most nominations of any network.
Reflecting on last year’s Emmy Awards, three shows dominated: “Succession,” “The Bear,” and “Beef.” Each show nearly swept its respective category in the drama, comedy, and limited series races. “Succession” and “The Bear” tied with a leading six wins each, and “Beef” followed closely with five trophies.
Looking ahead to the 76th Emmy Awards
The 76th Emmy Awards will be broadcast live on Sunday, Sept. 15, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m. ET/5:00 to 8:00 p.m. PT on ABC and streamed the next day on Hulu. As we await the announcement of the nominees, the excitement and speculation continue to build. Who will take home the coveted awards this year? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: the 2024 Emmy Awards promise to be a night to remember.
