Jeffrey Dean Morgan to host NBC’s new reality series ‘Destination X’
A new adventure in reality TV
Jeffrey Dean Morgan is set to take on a new role as the host of NBC’s upcoming reality competition series, Destination X. This marks Morgan’s first foray into hosting an unscripted series, adding another feather to his already impressive cap. The show is based on a Belgian format created by Geronimo and distributed globally by Be-Entertainment.
The perfect host for a mysterious journey
Corie Henson, executive vice president of unscripted content, competition, and game shows for NBCUniversal Entertainment, expressed her excitement about Morgan’s involvement. “Jeffrey Dean Morgan embodies the mischievous international man of mystery, making him the perfect host and puppet master for this new travel adventure series,” she said. “He’s dashing, charming, playful, and the ultimate travel companion!”
What to expect from ‘Destination X’
The official series description promises an exhilarating experience for both contestants and viewers. Contestants will embark on a road trip of a lifetime, but with a twist—they have no idea where they are. The journey takes place on the blacked-out Destination X bus, transforming into a real-life game board. Challenges are designed to offer clever clues about their location, along with a few misdirects to keep them guessing. At the end of each episode, contestants must guess their location, and the one furthest from the actual spot is sent packing. The first participant to reach Destination X will be crowned the winner. With high stakes and mind-blowing gameplay, the series promises to keep viewers engaged and take them along for the ride.
Morgan’s excitement and career highlights
Morgan himself is thrilled about the project. “‘Destination X’ captivated me with its blend of travel, mystery, and gaming,” he said. “I can’t wait to embark on this wild guessing game across the globe as Master of Ceremony, navigating players through challenges that test their mental and physical abilities.”
Morgan is no stranger to the screen. He currently stars in the AMC series The Walking Dead: Dead City, reprising his role as Negan, a character he began playing in The Walking Dead back in 2016. He is also known for his roles in shows like Supernatural and Grey’s Anatomy, and recently appeared in the Amazon series The Boys. In film, he has been featured in Watchmen and P.S. I Love You.
Behind the scenes of ‘Destination X’
The production of Destination X is a collaborative effort between Twofour, part of ITV Studios, and Universal Television Alternative Studio. Andy Cadman and Lee Smithurst will executive produce alongside Twofour managing director Dan Adamson and chief creative director David Clews. Twofour director of production and operations Shireen Abbott will oversee production. Morgan will also serve as an executive producer in addition to hosting.
Toby Gorman, president of Universal Television Alternative Studio, shared his enthusiasm for Morgan’s involvement. “When thinking about who we’d want to travel around the world with, Jeffrey Dean Morgan was the first person to come to mind,” he said. “‘Destination X’ is filled with adventure, excitement, and intrigue, all the characteristics that Jeffrey exemplifies.”
A promising future for ‘Destination X’
Destination X marks the second commission between NBC and the BBC following The Traitors. Twofour will produce both versions, and the BBC will announce their host at a later date.
As the anticipation builds, fans of Jeffrey Dean Morgan and reality TV enthusiasts alike can look forward to a series that promises to be as thrilling as it is mysterious. With Morgan at the helm, Destination X is set to be a captivating journey that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
