RedBird IMI expands its media empire with Bright North Studios acquisition
A new chapter for Bright North Studios
In a significant move within the media landscape, RedBird IMI, the media investment firm spearheaded by CEO Jeff Zucker, has acquired Bright North Studios, formerly known as Efran Films Canada. This Toronto-based production company, renowned for its narrative nonfiction TV content, is set to embark on a new journey under its rebranded identity.
A legacy of compelling storytelling
Bright North Studios has an impressive portfolio, having produced notable shows such as “FBI True” (CBS), “Never Seen Again” and “PD True” (Paramount+), “100 Days to Indy” (CW), “While the Rest of Us Die” (Vice TV), and “Who the (Bleep) Did I Marry?” (Investigation Discovery). These productions have captivated audiences with their authentic storytelling and high production values.
Leadership continuity and strategic roles
As part of the acquisition, Shawn Efran will continue to lead Bright North Studios as CEO, ensuring continuity in the company’s creative vision. Co-founder Morgan Hertzan will take on the role of CEO of Bright North Studios USA. Hertzan brings a wealth of experience from his tenure as president of global TV at Vice Media Group, where he managed all television operations. Jeff Zucker, with his extensive background as the former CEO of CNN, will join the board of Bright North Studios, providing strategic oversight.
