Lamorne Morris recalled a special conversation he had with Max Greenfield just before New Girl‘s series finale. During an appearance on Penn Badgley’s podcast, Podcrushed, alongside Nava Kavelin and Sophie Ansari, the Saturday Night star shared that the hit show’s cast — which also included Zooey Deschanel, Jake Johnson and Hannah Simone — “looked at each other like family.” “It was actually the best time that I’ve had on a production,” he said. “Everybody’s so funny. Everybody’s so thoughtful, kind, caring, and we’re all still really close friends till this day.” He continued, “Right before we were gonna end, Max Greenfield pulls me to the side, and he goes, ‘Regardless of whatever you’re going to go on and do after this show, it doesn’t get better than this.’ He was like, ‘This is rare. So don’t expect this, what we just went through for the last seven years. It’s not like that.’” And he was right — despite Morris having had some “pretty cool casts” through the years. “New Girl was one of those experiences, and the fans are so crazy in a good way that I’m like, ‘Man, I’ll talk about this show all day,’” the Emmy-winning Fargo star said. “I’m not one of those folks that really shies away from past work as long as I continue to work.” Elsewhere in the podcast, the actor looked back on his favorite episode of the hit series — the Prince episode. He explained that it was his favorite for “obvious reasons,” like getting to hang out with The High Priest of Pop. “There was so much fanfare around it and so much mystique around him, and when you meet him you’re like, ‘I see why. This man is illuminating. And he’s got on so many tassels and zippers,’” Morris said. “That was the most impressive part — he was so nice and just soft-spoken and very kind and gentle in the way he would talk to people. So that was a really cool experience.” However, he also recalled that episode being his least favorite for other reasons. At the time, he was really struggling with his mental health and had a “wild bout of depression” that saw him randomly start crying for no reason. “I didn’t know why,” he admitted. “It just kinda hit me, and I’m assuming it was diet-related because once I cleaned up my diet, the mood shifted.” THR Newsletters Sign up for THR news straight to your inbox every day Subscribe Sign Up
