The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina will open on Aug. 16 with the world premiere of “My Late Summer” by local filmmaker Danis Tanović, who won an Oscar with “No Man’s Land.” The comedy-drama centers on a young woman, Maja, who travels to a remote island to sort out her family’s inheritance. In a whirlwind of emotions and surprising situations, she faces questions from her past. The search for inheritance becomes a search for her own identity, but also for forgiveness. The film will be screened simultaneously in Sarajevo at the National Theatre, at the Coca-Cola Open Air Cinema, at the Stari Grad open air cinema and at the Centar Safet Zajko open air cinema, and its premiere will also kick off the festival’s screenings in Mostar, at the BH Telecom Open Air Cinema Mostar, and in Tuzla, at the Bingo Open Air Cinema Tuzla. Tanović won best screenplay at Cannes for “No Man’s Land” in 2001, and the film won the Oscar and the Golden Globe for the best foreign-language film in 2002. In 2014, Tanović was awarded Sarajevo Film Festival’s Honorary Heart, recognizing his “outstanding contribution to film art” and his support of the festival. “My Late Summer” was produced by Propeler Film in Croatia, and co-produced by Tangaj Production in Romania, Obala Art Centar in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Baš Čelik in Serbia and Tramal Films in Slovenia. It stars Anja Matković, Uliks Fehmiu, Goran Navojec, Mario Knezović, Marija Škaričić, Mirela Brekalo, Snježana Sinovčić, Luka Juričić, Boris Ler, Ivana Roščić and Jadranka Matković. The script was written by Anja Matković, Nikola Kuprešanin and Tanović. Miloš Jaćimović is the director of photography, Veronika Radman is the set designer, Redžinald Šimek is the editor, Dubravka Skvrce is the costume designer, and Silvija Bradica is the make-up designer. The film is produced by Lana Matić, Boris T. Matić, Jelena Mitrović, Srdan Golubović, Mirsad Purivatra, Jovan Marjanović, Anamaria Antoci, Miha Černec and Jožko Rutar. “My Late Summer” was created with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, the Cinematography Foundation Sarajevo, the Romanian Film Center, the Film Center Serbia, the Slovenian Film Center and the Creative Europe Media sub-program for project development, and in co-production with BH Telecom.
