Netflix has officially announced the release date for its upcoming dark comedy series, “No Good Deed,” starring Lisa Kudrow. The eight-episode series, created by Liz Feldman, known for her work on “Dead to Me,” is set to premiere on December 12.

The series follows Lydia (Lisa Kudrow) and Paul (Ray Romano) as they transition from their empty nest to a new life. They decide to sell their stunning 1920s Spanish-style villa, located in one of Los Angeles’ most sought-after neighborhoods. The real estate frenzy that ensues is the catalyst for the series’ dark comedic events.

“Multiple families race to buy what they believe to be their dream house, convinced it will solve all their problems,” reads the show’s logline. “But as Lydia and Paul know all too well, sometimes the home of your dreams can be a true nightmare. As they struggle to hide the dark and dangerous secrets that linger inside their longtime home, Paul and Lydia begin to realize that the only way they’ll escape the past is to finally face it.”

The teaser trailer opens with an open house hosted by “Raleigh Real Estate” in a spacious Los Angeles home, easily worth over $3 million. Linda Cardellini’s character makes an entrance, while Luke Wilson’s character, disguised in shades and a cap, signs in as “John Smith.”

Other characters, portrayed by Abbi Jacobson and Poppy Liu, explore the property, visibly impressed by its classic features. Given the historic nature of the home and its location in one of LA’s most desirable neighborhoods, it’s likely situated in Hancock Park.

The trailer takes a dark turn as Denis Leary’s character is seen staring at a hidden camera. Homeowners Lydia and Paul are revealed to be spying on their own open house via an iPhone app. The couple hides in one of the bedrooms, watching the feed, when someone tries to open the door, startling them. The trailer then escalates into a series of quick, violent clips: a hand dangerously close to a table saw, someone unwrapping a gun, and what appears to be a dead body.

“It’s a little darker than I was expecting,” Liu’s character remarks to Jacobson’s character, hinting at the show’s dark comedic tone.

The series will feature eight 30-minute episodes. Liz Feldman serves as the showrunner, director, and executive producer. Silver Tree also takes on the role of executive producer and director. Additional executive producers include Christie Smith, Jessica Elbaum, and Will Ferrell through Gloria Sanchez Productions.

The ensemble cast includes Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Denis Leary, Abbi Jacobson, and Poppy Liu. The series also features O-T Fagbenle and Teyonah Parris, with guest stars such as Matt Rogers, Kate Moennig, Chloe East, Rory Scovel, Wyatt Aubrey, Kevin Alves, and Linda Lavin. The writing team comprises Feldman, Madie Dhaliwal, Cara DiPaolo, Crystal Jenkins, Kelly Hutchinson, Bruce Eric Kaplan, and Zora Bikangaga.

“No Good Deed” promises to blend dark humor with suspense, a combination that has proven successful in recent years. The series’ premise of a seemingly perfect home hiding dark secrets taps into the current trend of exploring the darker side of suburban life, much like other popular shows in the genre.

The casting of Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano, both known for their comedic prowess, adds a layer of credibility and anticipation. Kudrow’s return to a leading role in a comedy series is particularly noteworthy, given her iconic status from previous roles. Romano’s involvement also signals a strong comedic foundation, ensuring that the series will deliver both laughs and thrills.

A new chapter for Lydia and Paul
