\tDwayne Johnson is telling audiences to sing in the movie theater if they wish. The A-list actor and producer is reprising his voice role of the demigod Maui in Disney\u2019s animated musical sequel \u201cMoana 2,\u201d in theaters Nov. 27. The blockbuster opening of \u201cWicked\u201d sparked a debate on whether or not moviegoers should be able to sing out loud during a musical film. Some theaters outright asked its patrons to \u201cplease refrain from singing\u201d during \u201cWicked,\u201d for instance.<\/p>\n
\tBut Johnson feels differently, telling the BBC on the \u201cMoana 2\u201d red carpet: \u201cSing! You\u2019ve paid your hard earned money for a ticket, and you\u2019ve gone into a musical, and you\u2019re into it. Sing.\u201d <\/p>\n
\tAMC Theatres spokesperson\u00a0Ryan Noonan told Indianapolis Star during \u201cWicked\u2019s\u201d opening weekend that the theater chain asked moviegoers not to sing during the musical movie to prevent screening disturbances. \t<\/p>\n
\t\t\t \t\t\tPopular on Variety\t\t \t \t\t \t \t\u201cAMC has a long-standing policy that prohibits disruptive behavior,\u201d\u00a0he told\u00a0the publication. \u201cThe \u2018Wicked\u2019 preshow spot [which includes \u2018no singing\u2019] incorporates the themes of the film as a fun, engaging reminder to moviegoers to not disrupt the experience for those around them as they enjoy the show.\u201d <\/p>\n
\tVariety exclusively reported ahead of \u201cWicked\u2019s\u201d opening day that Universal Pictures would start screening a sing-along version of \u201cWicked\u201d on Christmas. These are screenings where audience members are encouraged to sing. Until then, singing is not preferred as to not disrupt the experience for other ticket buyers.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cWicked\u201d star Ariana Grande was asked during the film\u2019s press tour about audience members singing during the film, to which she said: \u201cWe understand it if you [sing]. We respect the feelings\u2026 but if someone throws popcorn at you, their phone or something, maybe stop.\u201d<\/p>\n
