\tKate Winslet fought through tears during an interview with \u201c60 Minutes\u201d while remembering a time when she stood up to the press for bullying her over her weight following the success of \u201cTitanic.\u201d The Oscar winner has been vocal in the past about the body shaming she endured after James Cameron\u2019s 1997 blockbuster turned her into a global movie star. <\/p>\n
\tDuring her \u201c60 Minutes\u201d interview, a clip from \u201cE!\u201d was played in which the on-air host said Winslet looked \u201ca little melted and poured into\u201d a dress she wore during \u201cTitanic\u2019s\u201d awards season run. The host added that Winslet \u201cneeded two sizes larger and she\u2019d be ok.\u201d<\/p>\n
\t\u201cIt\u2019s absolutely appalling,\u201d Winslet then said about how the press bullied her over her weight at the time. \u201cWhat kind of a person must they be to do something like that to a young actress who\u2019s just trying to figure it out?\u201d \t<\/p>\n
\t\t\t \t\t\tPopular on Variety\t\t \t \t\t \t \tWhen asked if she\u2019d ever confronted the press for bullying her, Winslet responded:\u00a0\u201cI did get face to face. I let them have it. I said, \u2018I hope this haunts you\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n
\t\u201cIt was a great moment,\u201d Winslet continued as she fought back tears. \u201cIt was a great moment because it wasn\u2019t just for me, it was for all those people who were subjected to that level of harassment. It was horrific. It was really bad.\u201d<\/p>\n
\tWinslet\u00a0revealed in an interview with\u00a0The Sunday Times in 2022\u00a0that she was told to settle for \u201cfat girl\u201d parts when she was a young performer in acting school. The body shaming only got worse after \u201cTitanic.\u201d Winslet said on the \u201cHappy Sad Confused\u201d podcast that \u201cTitanic\u201d viewers used the film\u2019s ending to mock her weight by saying Rose was too fat for Leonardo DiCaprio\u2019s Jack to also survive the freezing Atlantic waters on the floating door.<\/p>\n
\t\u201cApparently I was too fat,\u201d Winslet said. \u201cWhy were they so mean to me? They were so mean. I wasn\u2019t even fucking fat.\u201d<\/p>\n
\t\u201cI\u2019m a young woman, my body is changing, I\u2019m figuring it out, I\u2019m deeply insecure, I\u2019m terrified, don\u2019t make this any harder than it already is,\u201d she continued. \u201cThat\u2019s bullying, you know, and actually borderline abusive, I would say.\u201d<\/p>\n
