\tDubai-based distributor Front Row Filmed Entertainment has taken global distribution rights for two Saudi Arabian short films premiering at the Red Sea International Film Festival that were developed under Film AlUla\u2019s AlUla Creates program.<\/p>\n
\tThe small but significant distribution deal will give global visibility to the shorts, respectively titled \u201cMalika\u201d by Maram Taibah and \u201cWhen The Shelves Hymn\u201d by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi, the latter of which is also produced by Front Row, \u201cunderscoring the company\u2019s commitment to supporting regional voices in filmmaking,\u201d according to a Front Row statement. <\/p>\n
\t\u201cThe creativity coming from Saudi Arabia\u2019s filmmakers is inspiring,\u201d said Gianluca Chakra, CEO of Front Row Filmed Entertainment, in the statement. Acquiring \u201cMalika\u201d and \u201cWhen The Shelves Hymn\u201d aligns with our mission to amplify regional voices and bring their stories to global audiences,\u201d he added. \t<\/p>\n
\tThe Film AlUla shorts germinated from the AlUla Creates program at Film AlUla, the film commission for the swathe of northwest Saudi Arabia roughly the size of\u00a0Belgium that also comprises a lush oasis and vast sandstone canyons. The program provides funding, mentorship and networking opportunities for Saudi filmmakers and fashion designers. <\/p>\n
\t\t\t \t\t\tPopular on Variety\t\t \t \t\t \t \t\u201cMalika,\u201d which is directed by Maram Taibah and was first unveiled in Cannes, is a short fantasy film about a little girl searching for the crown of her dying grandmother. <\/p>\n
\t\u201cWhen the Shelves Hymn,\u201d directed by Hanaa Saleh Alfassi, is about a mother and son\u2019s journey to AlUla to sell their family\u2019s antique shop, a toigh decision driven by the absence of the family\u2019s patriarch.<\/p>\n
